Information from NatureServe (2003): "Treated as Cyanea grimesiana ssp. cylindrocalyx in the Hawaii Manual (Wagner et al., 1990); recognized as the species Cyanea cylindrocalyx in the Manual's Supplement (Wagner and Herbst, 1999) and by Kartesz (1999 Synthesis)".
Cyanea cylindrocalyx was a Hawaiian endemic known only from one historical record collected in 1909.
