This species was known from only 3 individuals at a single site on the northwestern flank of Haleakala, Maui, in an area that was being utilized as cattle pasture. The plants are not known to have survived beyond 1910. This species should be searched for in the subalpine forests and shrublands of Haleakala. These habitats have been adversely affected by pigs, goats, and cattle.
