This overlooked taxon was recently (1996) rediscovered in the Hells Canyon area of Wallowa County after not having been collected since 1952. And, rediscovered in the west central Cascades in Linn County in 2000 after being last collected in 1966. It is now known from 22 occurrences, all on cliffs and bluffs. All of the known occurrences are small, the largest being about 100 plants with a total of about 500 individuals. Because they are on steep cliffs mostly within some kind of protected management designation (Wilderness Areas and Research Natural Areas), they are not believed to be threatened.
