Only a few seeds had survived of this endemic bush of Mauritius, considered extinct since 1990, conserved by the Brest Conservation Centre. In an attempt to ensure conservation of the species an innovative in vitro technique was used which was supposed to allow the regeneration of whole plants from a few living cell masses found in the dead tissues of seeds. It took nine years to produce adult specimens.
