Justification Cyanea giffardii was endemic to the Island of Hawaii. The species is known only from the original specimens collected in 1917 in the Glenwood area in the district of Puna on Hawaii Island.
Range Type collection from a locality near Glenwood on Hawaii. Population This species is known only from the type material, which was collected in 1917. Habitat and Ecology A palm-like tree 5-10 m tall. Occurred in wet forests on gently sloping old volcanic substrates.
