Known only from the type collection from Oregon; this plant has never been relocated. Some question regarding the accuracy/precision of the original locality; continued search in adjacent Cascades, as well as Oakland (Oregon) area warranted before this subspecies is considered extinct. Some question regarding validity as a subspecies - could just be an immature S. missurica
Oregon endemic known from only a single old (1881) collection of uncertain locality (no S. missurica has been since found near the presumed locality of the type). Additionaly, S. missurica becomes glabrous with age, and the type is immature. Accepted taxonomically by Kartesz (1999).
