Encephalartos nubimontanus
family: Zamiaceae
This species was endemic to the Limpopo Province / South Africa.
The remaining population was estimated to be 66 individuals in the late 1980s and declined to 8 individuals in 2001. Intensive surveys using helicopters and transects failed to find any plants in 2003/2004. There was evidence of collecting at this site as well as at localities of related species nearby. In addition to illegal poaching, the population had also been impacted by debarking for traditional medicinal use. Originally occurred in the Wolkberg mountains (at 1,000 m) at the northern part of the Drakensberg escarpment in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The extent of occurrence was less than 100 km².
