Fossil pollen from a probably endemic species of Carpinus has been found in Tenerife; this tree was extinct about the end of the XVth century. Also found was pollen from a Quercus species wich disappeared about the same time, but only could be identified at a generic level, maybe was another endemic species or a population of a mainland one (the possibility of being Quercus canariensis is sugestive, but not certain).
