Bulbophyllum zaratananae is endemic to Madagascar where it is known only from the type specimen collected in 1924 by Perrier de la Bâthie, H., in Bois, Sambirano Province and from one other specimen collected in 1923 by Perrier de la Bâthie, H., on Mt. Tsaratanana. Bulbophyllum zaratananae is considered Critically Endangered and has been assigned the Possibly Extinct tag due to the fact that it has not been seen since 1924 and that even though a population may still be extant in a protected area, on the basis of the present knowledge the species is of high conservation concern and may already be extinct. Further surveys focused specifically on searching for this taxon are required. www.iucnredlist.org/details/44392946/0
