Panicum pearsonii is assessed as Critically Endangered – Possibly Extinct. The species is only known from the type specimens collected in 1913 (Pearson 8518), at Karasberg sandstone plateau on the summit of Long Hill, east of Krai Kluft. Panicum pearsonii is considered Critically Endangered under criterion D (fewer than 50 mature individuals) and has been assigned the Possibly Extinct tag due to the fact that it has not been seen since 1913 and on the basis of the present knowledge the species is of high conservation concern and may already be extinct. Further surveys focused specifically on searching for this taxon are required. The fact that there are no recent collections in the last 96 years may reflect its extinction or taxonomic uncertainty. www.iucnredlist.org/details/44392986/0
