Scientific Name: Eugenia kameruniana
Species Authority: Engl.
Taxonomic Notes: The taxonomic status of this species is uncertain. Keay in FWTA 1: 238 lists this as 'an imperfectly known species'. In Engler's protologue, published in 1899, he gives only "Dusen 9" by way of specimen data and it is not certain that this derives from Mt Cameroon: research on Dusen's itinerary is needed. Keay gives credibility to this species by uniting with it E. hankeana Winkler as a later synonym, so adding a second specimen, Winkler 1110, collected between Debundscha and Bibundi. Both specimens are assumed destroyed at Berlin, and there are no duplicates at Kew. In the 1992-94 inventories, no specimens were attributed to this species, and it may be extinct.

Red List Category & Criteria: Critically Endangered A1c ver 2.3
Year Published: 2000
Date Assessed: 2000-01-01

Assessor(s): Cheek, M. & Cable, S.
Geographic Range [top]
Range Description: Known only from a single pre-1988 collection made on Mt. Cameroon and is possibly extinct.
Countries:
Possibly extinct:
Cameroon

Habitat and Ecology [top]
Habitat and Ecology: Probably grew in lowland evergreen rainforestat c. 200 m alt.
Systems: Terrestrial
Conservation Actions [top]
Conservation Actions: Some attempt should be made to rediscover this species on Mt Cameroon. A search for Myrtaceae between Bibundi and Debundscha would be worthwhile, as would research on Dusen’s itinerary to identify the locality of the type specimen.
