This species is characterized by the procumbent stolons, the almost round leaf blades, the densely pilose petioles, the ebarbate white petals with violet veins, and the chromosome number of 2n=22. The present species belongs to Sect.Nomimium, Subsect.Serpentes and is closely related to theV. iwagawai group of Sect.Nomimium, Subsect.Adnatae.
Flowers white, flowering in February to April (sometimes November to April). Leaves ca. 1cm wide. Evergreen. Prennial plants.
This is one of the most well-known plants that extinct in wild.
Only two mother plants were first collected along the middle course of the Benoki River, Okinawa Prefecture in 1982 and was described as a new species in 1988 when the Benoki Dam was already founded in its original place. Since then, it has no longer been discovered. Currently, it has been cultivated widely and tries to get itself back to the original place.
